The fear of your brain

TYou see the word "brain," and already you're starting to panic, thinking that neuroscience is too complicated for you.

Let me prove to you in a few sentences that you are more than capable of understanding what’s happening in your brain.

No need to panic, there won’t be a test at the end of this article. Relax, take a deep breath, and most importantly, don’t underestimate yourself!

✍🏾 Introspection Questions:

  • What emotions or thoughts come to mind when you face a subject you don’t fully understand?

  • What is your Inner Child saying to you?

The fear in your brain

When you perceive something that might be dangerous, your brain works like a small security team that works to protect you. This team consists of two main parts: the amygdala and the cognitive brain.

When your eyes and ears detect something that could be a threat, the amygdala, which acts as the head of the security team, receives these signals. The amygdala quickly decides whether the situation is a threat or not, based on your past experiences and survival instincts

If the amygdala deems it a threat, it sends the order to trigger fear. This happens by sending signals to other parts of your brain and body, such as increasing your heart rate, releasing adrenaline (a hormone that gives you energy), and preparing for either flight or defense.

Meanwhile, your cognitive brain tries to understand the situation and decide how to respond more thoughtfully. This can take a little longer, as your cognitive brain is slower than the amygdala.

✍🏾 Introspection Questions:

How does fear manifest in your body? What physical signs communicate to you that you don’t feel safe?

Did you survive?

Well, now you have a general idea of how fear works in your brain.

Understanding what’s happening in your brain allows you to distance yourself from events, people, or situations that scare you.

In this article, the fear we want to overcome together is the fear of connecting with your Inner Child.

I believe you’re ready.

Why overcome your fear of connecting with your Inner Child?

Overcoming the fear of connecting with your Inner Child is a process that can have positive impacts on many levels. This path is a door that leads you to an infinite number of discoveries, teachings, new realities, and possibilities.

Let’s explore together some of the reasons why:

✨ Personal Dimension ✨

Let’s start with the basics.

Connecting with your Inner Child is about taking care of yourself on different levels.

First, it’s about identifying your unresolved emotional wounds, negative behavioral patterns, and deep fears. All of these unattractive things are present within you, whether you are aware of them or not. You can choose to ignore them, not pay attention to them, and try to suppress everything. However, keep in mind that 95% of your behaviors, habits, and beliefs are stored in your unconscious. Only 5% of the actions you take daily are "conscious." So you can consciously act as if these pains don't exist, but unconsciously, it’s these very things that are in control, whether you want them to be or not 🫤.

What isn’t expressed will find a way to lodge itself in your body, creating somatic aches that will add to the wounds of your soul and mind.

For me, taking care of your Inner Child is about learning to remember who you truly are. It’s about revealing the child full of dreams, aspirations, innocence, creativity, imagination, and joy that lies hidden beneath the armor life has pushed you to create.

It’s also about using your Inner Child as an internal compass to help you make decisions that are more aligned with your authentic needs and deep desires.

You will also develop tangible emotional intelligence skills and tools that will help you better navigate the world around you.

Lastly (though this list is not exhaustive), by connecting with your Inner Child in a more conscious way, you will significantly reduce your stress and anxiety.

This isn’t a magic formula, but rather a journey during which you will collect tools to learn how to regulate yourself, reassure the child within, and healthily release repressed emotions to create a more balanced and serene life for yourself and those around you.

✍🏾 Introspection Questions:

  • What are the emotions you have the hardest time expressing and have been suppressing since childhood? Why do you think that is?

  • How did you see your parents (or those who took care of you when you were a child) handle their emotions?

✨ Spiritual Dimension ✨

Reconnecting with your Inner Child can be a path to your spiritual growth. By reconnecting with the innocence, creativity, and simplicity of your childhood (present regardless of your story), you can develop a better understanding of yourself and others. Connecting with your Inner Child can help you find a deeper sense of meaning and live a life more aligned with your spiritual values.

Moreover, I remind you that we are talking about a version of you that exists INSIDE you but is not tangible. It’s about learning to travel through time to remember that, in reality (and in quantum physics), the Past/Present/Future are one!

When you choose to embody the adult your Inner Child needed, you are traveling through time and space to care for the child within, comforting them and creating a sense of safety that perhaps no child in your lineage ever had the chance to experience...

Epigenetics and transgenerational concepts remind us that our ancestors are still with us, and we carry them not only in our genes but also, and most importantly, in our behaviors, habits, and beliefs.

We are, therefore, the heirs of their existence, and we have the power to break cycles that have repeated for generations, freeing the children who came before us.

✍🏾 Introspection Questions:

  • What are the gifts and talents you have inherited from your ancestors?

  • Ask your parents to show you a photo of them when they were children.

✨ Ecological Dimension ✨

Connecting with your Inner Child means reflecting on your impact on the environment.

It’s about reminding yourself that you are part of a strong yet fragile ecosystem that needs to be preserved.

Children often have a natural connection with nature and a sensitivity to preserving the ecosystem. Taking the time to reconnect with your inner child can be a pathway to adopting a more environmentally conscious lifestyle, one that is more in tune with and harmonious with the living world. Step by step, you can begin to transform your behaviors and consumption habits to leave behind a playground full of life, diversity, and richness for future generations.

This planet that graciously hosts us reminds the children who are willing to listen to its music that abundance is found Here and Now.

And when you realize that you have everything you need within you, in nature, and in the relationships you create and nurture around you, you no longer chase after the latest trends. You become aware that wealth lies in the present moment and in your ability to create a sense of safety within yourself. You begin investing in products and services of higher quality that share this awareness and strive, at their level, to preserve our planet.

✍🏾 Introspection Questions:

  • What was your favorite animal when you were a child?

  • Where in nature did you feel the most connected when you were a child?

✨ Abundance Mindset ✨

If there’s one thing your Inner Child can help you with, it’s your mindset. By connecting with this part of you, you directly tap into the energy of abundance. The kind of abundance that brings you exactly what you need, when you need it. Not more, not less.

It’s this energy that allows children to create magical worlds with moving boxes and have hours of fun.

And that spark is within you. You just need to allow yourself to rediscover it.

One habit that can help you immerse yourself in this life energy, this energy of nature, is gratitude. And the best part? Gratitude is FREE!

All you need to do is list 1, 3, 5, or 100 things you’re grateful for in your life

When you do this exercise, not only will you focus on the positive things present in your life (and there are always an infinite number, no matter what life situation you're in), but you’ll also be doing good for your body, which will release a cocktail of hormones that will make you feel on top of the world:

Dopamine: associated with pleasure and reward, creating a feeling of well-being and satisfaction.

Serotonin: a neurotransmitter linked to mood regulation. It helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Oxytocin: sometimes called the "bonding hormone," it’s released during positive social interactions, strengthening social bonds and the feeling of connection.

Endorphins: natural chemicals in the brain that act as pain relievers and mood boosters.

✍🏾 Introspection Questions:

  • Name 5 things you are grateful for today.

  • List 10 aspects of your childhood that you are grateful for.

✨ Community Dimension ✨

As mentioned earlier in this article, connecting with your Inner Child is primarily a personal journey. You learn to understand yourself better, accept yourself more, and love yourself so that you can then better care for the world around you.

This is far from the belief that taking care of yourself is selfish.

On the contrary, since we are all part of the same ecosystem, this system is as strong as its weakest link.

I want to clarify that this isn’t about measuring who is the healthiest. It’s not a competition; it’s more about taking responsibility.

It’s about realizing that by taking care of yourself, feeling good/better, allowing yourself to love and dream, you are also taking care of your community, because you become a "healthier" link in the chain.

Thus, from a full cup, you are able to give to the world without depleting yourself or sacrificing your well-being.

Moreover, since we are social beings who learn by imitation from an early age, connecting with your Inner Child and allowing yourself to be transformed by this energy will give permission to others who may have never heard of it to do the same, at their own pace and level.

Without even realizing it, you will become a point of reference for some people around you who are receptive to your new vibration. Not because you're going on a crusade to preach the good word (although you can do that), but because you will radiate something different—something calmer, more balanced, more loving, and probably even more radiant.

When you overcome the fear of showing your vulnerability, you are more capable of creating authentic connections with others, which strengthens community cohesion and transforms the world into a more pleasant space.

And we all need that right now...

So with all that, I want to add "no pressure." There are still plenty of reasons I could share here to help you overcome the fear of connecting with your Inner Child.

My intention is not to put pressure on you, but rather to gently guide you with kindness on this incredible journey that will help you remember who you truly are!
